The contest that did die

(A late-breaking update)

We have a winner! The source of the title, Rarer Than Ever, was correctly identified by an anonymous fan of www.trusttheprocess.com, which apparently has something to do with a guy who used to be in Duran Duran.

So what's the answer? We got the title from the inimitable Ernie Kovacs, who said (depending on which source you believe) either:

Television is often called a medium because it's so rarely well done.

... or ...

Television - a medium. So called because it is neither rare nor well-done.

Special bonus credit to Chris Crosby of Superosity who knew it had something to do with Ernie Kovacs, but couldn't find the quote. Hey, anyone who can mention Harlan Ellison in his comic deserves bonus credit.

Tune in tomorrow for the best of the rest of the answers!

(And what we originally said...)

Someone decided on a quote that was just a little too obscure, and we all hate him for it.

So here's another hint: look for Ernie and television with your search engines. And it's not related at all to Sesame Street. If you think you've found something, write us and share your guess.

(If there's no winner tomorrow, we'll figure out some way to reward the folks with the best wrong answers, so if you can't find anything you could still try to amuse us.)
